FAQs

What inspired you to become a doula?

My early experiences supporting my sister through pregnancy and childbirth ignited a passion within me for assisting others on their birthing journeys. Witnessing the incredible power of birth and the vital role of community support sparked a deep desire to serve and empower individuals during this transformative time.

What is the role of a doula during childbirth?

As a doula, my role is to provide continuous support to individuals during labor and birth. This includes emotional support, physical comfort measures, advocacy, and helping individuals make informed decisions. I am there to offer encouragement, reassurance, and guidance throughout the entire birthing process.

What can I expect from doula support during the postpartum period?

During the postpartum period, I offer support to individuals and their families as they transition into parenthood. This may include emotional support, practical assistance with newborn care, breastfeeding support, and guidance on self-care. I am there to provide a listening ear, answer questions, and help individuals navigate the challenges and joys of early parenthood.

What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing is a childbirth preparation technique that combines self-hypnosis, relaxation techniques, visualization, and education to help families have a more positive and empowered birth experience. It aims to reduce fear and tension during labor and promote a calm and comfortable birth.

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to individuals and their families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Doula support is non-medical and focuses on enhancing the overall birthing experience and well-being of the individual.

What sets your approach as a doula apart?

My approach as a doula is rooted in inclusivity, compassion, and evidence-based practices. I am deeply committed to providing holistic support to ALL individuals, with a particular focus on marginalized communities. I strive to create an environment of cultural competence, respect, and healing, dismantling systemic barriers and biases that have historically marginalized certain communities in their birthing experiences.

How can I access your doula services?

I kindly invite you to visit my contact page at your earliest convenience. I am eager to establish a fruitful working relationship with you and your growing family.

Does hypnobirthing involve being hypnotized?

While the term "hypnosis" is used in hypnobirthing, it doesn't involve being in a trance-like state or losing control. Instead, it focuses on inducing a state of deep relaxation, heightened focus, and mental awareness to better manage pain and promote a positive mindset during childbirth.

What training have you undergone as a doula?

In 2021, I completed my first doula training program with Sista Midwife Productions. This training equipped me with evidence-based knowledge, practical skills, and a profound capacity for empathy to support individuals through childbirth.

How do you ensure trauma-free birth outcomes for marginalized individuals?

I understand that experiencing trauma-free birth outcomes requires fostering a sense of agency, respect, and healing. I work towards dismantling barriers that have hindered the birthing experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQ2SIA+ individuals. By providing culturally competent care, promoting holistic practices, and advocating for evidence-based approaches, I aim to create transformative and empowering birth experiences.

Do you only provide support to birthing individuals?

While my primary focus centers on supporting birthing individuals, I extend my services to encompass their partners and families as well. In addition, I offer preconception wellness services, postpartum support, and breastfeeding consultations. The ultimate objective is to foster a nurturing and inclusive environment that caters to all individuals involved in the birthing process.

Can anyone use hypnobirthing?

Yes, hypnobirthing can be beneficial for most parents, regardless of their previous birth experiences or birth plans. It is suitable for first-time parents, those who have had previous difficult births, and even those planning medical interventions like cesarean sections.
